Anecoop receives the Cooperative of the Year Award from Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España

Five decades of experience have consolidated Anecoop’s business model as a benchmark for agri-food cooperatives both within and beyond our borders; a model whose top priority is the profitability of the 20,000 farmers it represents, driving the sustainable development of rural communities.

The second-tier agri-food cooperative has closed the 2024–2025 financial year with a double record: it has achieved a new all-time high in turnover, reaching €986.6 million (a figure representing a 4.39% increase on the previous financial year) and also in the combined turnover of the Anecoop Group, which stands at €1.166 billion, 3.5% more than in the 2023-2024 financial year.

May 2026

Anecoop has been awarded the Cooperative of the Year Prize by Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España, an accolade that highlights its solid track record in a highly significant financial year coinciding with the celebration of its 50th anniversary. The aim of these awards is to highlight and recognise best practices in the agri-food cooperative sector across the country and to convey the values and principles of the cooperative model to society, highlighting initiatives that contribute directly to economic, social and territorial sustainability, as well as to innovation and equal opportunities.

The award ceremony for its 11th edition took place on Thursday 21 May, coinciding with the General Assembly of Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España. Anecoop’s chairman, Alejandro Monzón, and its managing director, Joan Mir, received the award from Spain’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and the president of Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias, Ángel Villafranca.   In his speech, Alejandro Monzón began by expressing his gratitude for the award on his own behalf and on behalf of the entire family that makes up this second-degree cooperative. “This recognition fills us with particular pride because it is awarded by the organisation that oversees the Spanish agri-food cooperative sector. It is a widely shared award that highlights collective effort over individual achievements. It belongs to those founders who believed in the viability of this project; to all the farmers and partner organisations who have placed their trust in our management over all these years; to the successive governing councils and management committees, with their dedication and strategic vision; as well as to all the professional teams, whose talent has been a fundamental pillar in driving our growth.”

Anecoop, an international leader in agri-food cooperatives

Five decades of experience have established Anecoop’s business model as a benchmark for the agri-food cooperative sector both within and beyond Spain’s borders. This is reflected in the results of the 2024–2025 financial year: a record-breaking year in terms of both Anecoop’s own turnover and the combined turnover of all the companies that make up the Anecoop Group, whose products are available in 67 countries.

Anecoop has a structure comprising five regional offices in Spain, twelve subsidiaries in eight countries and two logistics hubs, offering a local and efficient service to its customers, forming what is possibly the largest fruit and vegetable sales network in Europe.

The profitability of its members: Anecoop’s top priority

Anecoop currently represents 20,000 farmers from 13 Spanish provinces (Valencia, Murcia, Almería, Seville, Castellón, Huelva, Alicante, Cádiz, Ciudad Real, Segovia, Valladolid, Navarre and Lleida) and has 61 member organisations.

Their profitability is the top priority for this agri-food cooperative. According to the results of the 2024–2025 marketing year, the average payment to members per kilo or litre sold has increased by 4.7%, a figure that highlights Anecoop’s efforts during a marketing year marked by significant challenges arising from the impact of climate change (cold spells, pests and hailstorms…) and market uncertainty due to geopolitical events.

Innovation, the key to Anecoop’s success

Anecoop has established itself as a pioneering company since its inception in 1975, when it emerged as a disruptive initiative that, against all odds, transformed the Spanish agri-food sector.

In this regard, during the award ceremony, Alejandro Monzón highlighted that “for 50 years, Anecoop has guided and supported farmers and partner organisations in overcoming the challenges posed by an increasingly complex, demanding and uncertain global market. It does so with a focus on innovation: in production and quality systems, in new products (such as seedless watermelon and persimmon, the launch of which, under the Bouquet brand, revolutionised the European fruit and vegetable market), in food safety, in sustainability (Naturane and the Anecoop Sustainability Observatory), in marketing and communication campaigns (Raciones de Vida para el Campo), in technology and in business management (Plan Impulso)”.

In 2026, it is once again launching an innovative initiative that reflects its firm commitment to one of the most important challenges of the future: the Releva Programme. This is a pioneering project in the Valencian agricultural sector (the aim is to roll it out in future editions to other regions) designed to promote generational renewal, reinforce farmers’ business acumen and strengthen cooperative leadership in the regions by promoting a competitive, sustainable model that generates opportunities.

The unstoppable force of cooperativism

The president of Anecoop concluded his speech by emphasising that “we have got this far by placing farmers where they deserve to be: at the heart of the value chain. Because five decades on, we still have the same resilience, courage and ambition as on day one: to innovate, transform, raise the profile of agriculture and create opportunities for those who work the land, strengthening the local economy and promoting social cohesion. Because together and united, we are unstoppable.”
